10 Biggest Mistakes In Web Designs
Do you own a business website? If yes, do you think your web design is functional and effective? Check out these ten biggest web design mistakes that must be avoided:
1.) Not including a user’s search box. Why put a search box in your website? A search box will give your visitors more convenience and ease when exploring the contents of your site.
2.) Using PDF files. PDF files are great when sending important documents throug e-mail because it preserves the content and the format. However, using PDF files on your site is not recommended. Why? These files take a longer time to open and most people wouldn’t bother to wait more than a few seconds to read information online.
3.) The links do not change color. Visited links should appear different from the links that have never been opened. This way, a visitor to your site can easily recognize which pages he’s already opened and which ones haven’t been opened.
4.) Not using proper text divisions. Text divisions are valuable because they make way for easier reading and scanning. Examples of text divisions that you can use are headings, sub titles, bulleted lists, quotes, indentations for new paragraphs and highlighted words.
5.) Too small fonts. Don’t give your reader a hard time by using very small font. Font styles that are decorated are also not applicable for business web sites. Unreadable text can drive your audience away.
6.) Using poor titles. What makes an effective page title? Use the right keywords in your titles so search engines can find your site more easily.
7.) Using too many ads. Don’t clutter your business website with too many ads or banners. Some people get easily annoyed by flickering banners or very large ads. If you want to include ads, use smaller banners or text ads instead.
8.) Using a very complicated navigation layout. Your main goal should be to give your visitors an easy time navigating through your site. Although you want a web design that’s unique and stylish, make sure that your main pages are easy to locate.
9.) Dead links. Dead links are a no-no. Check all hyperlinks on your site if they’re working. Make sure that the links lead to the right pages.
10.) Using flash intro. Flash intros may be great but take too long to complete. Not everyone wants to wait around while your flash intro is downloading. If you want to use a flash intro, be sure to include a SKIP FLASH button on your site.

Guilty as charged! I used to have this site for my business that I forgot to include a search box. And one viewer emailed me regarding this matter. And now that I am planning to have a new site, I’ll keep that in mind. Plus the flash intro thing. Thanks for informative articles like this one. Really helped me.
